This-Ability is a National Lottery Community Fund programme aimed at finding 500 young people sustainable employment.

The aim of the project is to provide specialist support and training for young people to access work and learning. This will give young people the opportunities to explore and experience specific occupational sectors. Participants will also complete an ‘Employability Passport’.

This-Ability currently works with 4 delivery partners (Hull KR, Hull FC, Working for Health and Goodwin) which cover key sector areas in:

• Sport and Leisure

• Logistics and retail

• Public Sector

• Digital and ICT

• Health and Social Care Sector

• Creative industries

This-Ability also includes the Making Our Business Yours (MOBY) project. This is a unique and bespoke mentoring package available to employers who recruit individuals from the This-Ability project. Businesses that work with MOBY are allocated a mentor who will provide tailored support to the business looking to be a disability confident employer. MOBY mentors also learn earmarked roles within the company and teach This-Ability learners through the TSI (Training with Systematic Instruction) technique.

Course Details

This-Ability is a three stage programme built around the achievement of our Employability Passport.

Stage 1 is where you will start your journey with the This-Ability project. You will attend a 10-week course where you will get involved in various activities that will enable you to build up the core skills you need before going into work. We call these the Core Capabilities and they form the first half of the Employability Passport.

What are the 6 Core Capabilities?

Openness - Self-Esteem - Resilience - Reliability - Motivation - Awareness of the Labour Market

This part of the programme is classroom based, but may include

outdoor team building

problem solving activities

employer visits

sector specific activities

We will always make sure we cater to the different needs of all our participants to make sure all activities are fully inclusive.

On stage 2 of your This-Ability programme you will join one of our partner organisations to gain sector specific employability skills and experience and complete the seven Confederation of British Industries (CBI) Skills in your Employability Passport. These are skills recognised by employers in the Humber region as being essential to their employees.

Stage 3 of This-Ability is a supported Job Club, where you can work with our project mentor until you find the job for you.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Learners will work their way through an Employment Passport with a dedicated mentor ensuring that they achieve all elements of the passport before progressing
