Course Summary

These are Vocationally Related Qualifications. They are intended for those who need to obtain a basic skill in manual metal arc, oxy-acetylene, metal inert gas or tungsten inert gas welding.

Course Details

Fabrication and Welding learners will cover aspects such as understanding cutting, forming and joining metal and using different methods of carrying out sheet metal cutting, forming and assembly including Oxy-Acetylene equipment and Manual Metal Arc and TIG welding.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course will be set within East Riding College€™s state of the art welding workshop by a fully qualified welder/fabricator. It will be a practically based course.

No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience are required for candidates undertaking the qualification(s). However, candidates must have the potential and opportunity to be successful in gaining their qualification.

These qualifications are a platform for progression To other City and Guilds awards that have a welding route, for example: 2800 Certificate in Engineering €“ Welding & 2800 Certificate in Engineering €“ Fabrication & Welding. The award can also provide skills Development training towards an NVQ in Welding or an Engineering NVQ award that includes welding optional units, for example: Performing Engineering Operations.
