Course Summary

The Level 3 Business programmes offer two specialist routes, with the specialism chosen in the second year of the programme.

Level 3 Business Expert

The Level 3 BTEC Foundation Diploma and two-year Extended Diploma offer an excellent grounding in a wide range of business subjects including Marketing, Finance, Management and Economics. Offering an excellent progression pathway to Higher Education, this programme also provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate some of the skills needed to thrive in business such as:

Pitching for Business
Digital Marketing
Managing Events
Building effective Teams

Students have the opportunity to undertake extended work placements with local businesses and additional qualifications in Team Leading and Using Social Media for Business in addition to taking part in enterprise, community-based and fundraising activities.

Level 3 Social Media for Business Expert

The Level 3 route is specifically designed for those who want to specialise in the use of social media in business. Today, when all businesses need an online presence, the use of social media to promote business activities and communicate with customers is essential. This expert route provides excellent progression opportunities into a range of digital marketing and administrative roles. The main qualification is the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Social Media for Business. This programme will provide you with knowledge in the following areas:

The Principles of Social Media in a Business
Using Social Media for Advertising and Promotion
Social Networking Management
Keywords and Optimisation
Using Collaborative Technologies

Students will select this specialist route at the end of their first-year programme. There will be opportunities to work with local businesses on social-media promotional campaigns as part of extended work placements.

This course is available as part of a full-time study programme for 16 to 18 year olds, and as a part time course for adults aged 19 and over. Please ask learner services for details.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is a combination of external examinations and assessments and internally assessed assignments, practical tasks and presentations.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs grade A*-C/4-9 including Maths and English
Or level two diploma (merit)
Or first diploma (merit)
Or NVQ level two

Successful interview demonstrating motivation and commitment to the course

This qualification can lead to career opportunities in marketing, finance, human resources and management, as well as other business-related careers. You may also progress onto a higher level course, such as the Foundation Degree in Leisure Management or Public Service Management delivered at East Riding College and validated by University of Hull.
