Course Summary

The Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the performing arts. They provide an opportunity for those who have an interest in the performing arts to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating, demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.

It is generally delivered over one year and will enable learners to develop a portfolio of work that could support progression into a range of higher education courses. Most learners will progress to the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts.

This course is available as part of a full-time study programme for 16 to 18 year olds, and as a part time course for adults aged 19 and over. Please ask learner services for details.

Level 3

Professional Development:
  • Master essential auditioning skills, including self-promotion, preparation strategies, and performance delivery under pressure
  • Develop proficiency in research techniques specific to the performing arts, enabling you to critically analyse and utilize relevant information
  • Develop valuable transferable skills such as leadership, communication, problem-solving, and time management, applicable in diverse professional contexts
Rehearsal Skills:
  • Deepen your understanding of how to deliver and receive constructive criticism effectively, fostering personal and collective growth
  • Delve into the rich history and diverse styles of performing arts, gaining a broader context for your artistic development
  • Learn the fundamentals of directing, including script analysis, staging techniques, and working collaboratively with actors and production teams
Performance Skills:
  • Hone your skills in acting, singing, and dancing, mastering advanced techniques for stage presence, character development, and vocal and physical expressivity
  • Explore the unique demands of acting for film and television, including working with camera angles, incorporating subtext, and adapting performance to different mediums
  • Develop advanced skills in audience engagement, mastering techniques to build rapport, connect emotionally, and create a captivating and impactful performance experience
Production Skills:
  • Gain an understanding of various production roles beyond technical aspects, including marketing, finance, and fundraising
  • Develop leadership and management skills necessary to effectively lead and collaborate with technical teams in a production environment
  • In-depth exploration of fundamental technical aspects such as lighting design, sound design, and set design, fostering a comprehensive understanding of theatrical production processes
These courses are assessed through practical activities and written coursework depending on the subject matter. Coursework and practical assessments are based on realistic workplace situations and live assignments where appropriate. Evidence is not always prescribed so presenting the work can be done in a variety of ways that work for you!

Trips, visits & guest speakers - Opportunities to work and perform in a Theatre production, Great work readiness, communication and resilience, which will give you the skills to be able to progress onto the next level.
