Course Summary
Engineering Operatives are predominantly involved in the engineering operations which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector allowing employers to grow their business while developing a work force with the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the sustainability of the sector.
The role covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across multiple manufacturing and engineering industry sectors during your career.
Examples of the occupational roles from across the engineering and manufacturing sector that would be covered within this standard are -
Servicing and maintenance operative
Machine setter / operative
Electrical engineering operative
Mechanical engineering operative
Fabrication operative
Multi-disciplined engineering operative
Materials, processing and finishing operative
Technical Support operative
Course Details
During this course you will learn a full range of skills that a qualified engineering operative needs including -
how to obtain the necessary job instructions, engineering drawings and specifications and how to interpret them
relevant statutory, quality, environmental compliance procedures/systems, organisational and health and safety regulations relating to engineering operations
their individual roles and responsibilities within the organisation and the flexibility required to support the achievement of company targets
engineering operational practices, processes and procedures
potential problems that can occur within the engineering operations and how they can be avoided
demonstrate effective communication skills which include oral, written and electronic
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will work towards gaining an apprenticeship standard to be a qualified engineering operative. The apprenticeship standard contains a list of skills, knowledge and behaviours you will need to have learnt by the end of your apprenticeship.
Exams and practical assessments, plus practical observation and professional discussion as part of the final end-point assessment (EPA)
Entry requirements
You need to be aged 16 years and over
GCSE Grade (D/3) and above in maths and English (or equivalent). If you do not have these grades then call or email to discuss
You do not need any prior Engineering qualifications, but you do need to be employed to start this course
