This-Ability is a National Lottery Community Fund programme aimed at finding 500 young people sustainable employment.
The aim of the project is to provide specialist support and training for young people to access work and learning. This will give young people the opportunities to explore and experience specific occupational sectors. Participants will also complete an ‘Employability Passport’.
Hull FC Community Foundation uses the power of sport and strong local influence of Hull FC to make positive changes to the lives of those who need our support through delivering needs led projects across four key agendas: Participation, Education, Health and Social Inclusion. Each year, over 15,000 people form Hull access provision aged from as young as two through to their nineties. Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people and adults through active participation and to raise the aspirations and skills of young people for a better life through bespoke learning and training programmes. We deliver programmes through a passionate, hard-working team of professionally qualified coaches and tutors who share an understanding of the vital role that sport and can play in engaging, educating and inspiring people of all ages and abilities.
Course Details
Our Play On programme delivered as part of the This-Ability project, is a fantastic option for anyone look to gain real-world work experience in a range of environments throughout the club and the Foundation. These include;
- Retail
- Administration
- Customer Service
- Media (including social media)
- Graphic Design
- Coaching
- Opportunity to work in schools
- Opportunity to work in community settings (such as health and wellbeing)
Based directly within club and Foundation departments, participants will have to opportunity to focus on one aspect of their placement or combine their work experience. Locations vary from the KCOM Stadium, the city centre, and our Bonus Youth Performance centre, Pickering Road. Participants will receive Hull FC staff kit and travel reimbursements such as bus passes are available.
Additionally, participants can obtain an accredited qualification in Employability skills. Supported by our qualified and friendly members of staff, participants will work through their Employability Passport whilst drawing on relevant experience they’ve gained through the real-world work experience part of Play On.
Each participant will be assigned their own mentor to guide them through their overall placement, in addition to supervisors who will assist them in their day-to-day work settings. Participants will also have access to physical activity opportunities, such as the facilities at our Bonus Youth Performance centre, Hull FC’s Learning Disability Rugby League sessions, and all additional sessions offered by the Foundation.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The This-Ability programme is built around the completion of an Employability Passport, which will help you demonstrate and explain your skills to employers.
