Course Summary
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the many aspects of horticulture.
Course Details
The central subjects covered over the two years include plant and soil science, plant identification and use, amenity turf, machinery use and maintenance, estate skills, tree and shrub pruning, establishing exterior plant displays, plant propagation, site surveys, landscape and garden design, landscape construction, business and project management.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The practical elements cover about 40% of the course and the theoretical elements about 60%.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, to include 2 from English, Maths or Science with at least a grade 3 in the remaining subject. Alternatively, a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2.
Your next steps...
Students who successfully complete this course could progress onto studies for a higher education qualification such as a Foundation Degree in Horticulture, Landscape and Garden Management, Sports Surface Management or Arboriculture, then onto a top up BSc Hons Degree in Applied Horticulture.
