Course Summary

Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives.

Course Details

To gain the Diploma you must achieve a minimum of 58 credits, with 39 credits gained from the following mandatory units:-

• Responsibilities and ways of working in adult care settings/services

• Safeguarding and protection in adult care settings/services

• Understanding mental capacity and restrictive

• Understanding duty of care

• Effective communication in adult care settings/services

• Handling information in adult care settings/services

• Promoting and implementing person-centred practice

• Promoting choice and independence in adult care settings/services

• Supporting individuals with their health and wellbeing

• Promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights in adult care settings

• Promoting health and safety in adult care settings/services

• Supporting infection prevention and control in adult care settings/services

• Implementing health and safety in adult care settings/services

• Continuous development when working in an adult care worker role

• Understanding personal wellbeing


How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be allocated a workplace assessor who will develop an individual learning plan and will guide you to develop an electronic portfolio of evidence to meet the learning outcomes.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements except a college interview, and you must be at least 16 years of age. However, since this qualification is assessed in the workplace, you need a job or work placement which offers you suitable experience and the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills.

Basic computer skills are essential.
