Course Summary

Building Better opportunities (BB0) is one of the programmes delivered by East Riding of Yorkshire Councils Employment education and skills team. We can offer all sorts of advice and support to help you to move on in life, education or work. You will be offered one to one support with an advisor. You'll come along to an initial meeting with us so that you can get the help that you need and support to help you identify any barriers and plan a way to overcome those barriers to move on. Our team work closely with local employers and training providers to match your skills and experience to jobs, training and courses available.

Course Details

BBO is a personalised programme that supports people aged 25 and over to overcome barriers to getting employment, education or training.

Some people know what they want to do to make positive changes, but it isn’t always easy to know how to change things that aren’t working well. Often it can be about having more confidence and motivation. This is where the Building Better Opportunities programme helps.

The programme is delivered by the council’s Employment, education and skills team and is personalised to an individual’s needs.

You will get the chance to work with a dedicated personal adviser and/or keyworker, depending on the level of support that you need. Your adviser/key worker will meet with you at a local setting, convenient to you, and can offer help with the following kind of things:

Finding activities that will help to increase your confidence and self-esteem

Assistance finding suitable training if needed

Help with job searching, CV writing, completing application forms and practising interview techniques

All of the support is confidential.

Activities on programme include the following:

Weekly one to one support

Improve confidence, self-esteem, mental resilience, greater inclusion and healthy lifestyles workshop

Personal budgeting

Employability workshops

Local employer-led mock interviews

Support to help remove personal barriers

Facilitating work placement's/experience, volunteering

Peer support

Identifying gaps in basic skills

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This will be discussed with you and agreed depending on individual needs.
