Course Summary
Access to Higher Education - Computing, is a QAA approved programme for learners who wish to pursue a career in the IT sector. This programme is designed for those who want to study Computing and IT at a Higher Education (HE) level.
If you have the aim of working in the IT industry - but do not have the required entry qualifications and/or underpinning knowledge of Computer Science/Technology/Programming/Networking, then speak to us. If you have been away from studying for some time and wish to start your career in the field of IT, this course is for you.
If you are interested in the 'nuts and bolts' of modern Computing, and want to make a career in an ever-growing industry, then this is for you!
We have close links with local universities that welcome students from the Access to HE course. Students are guided through their university applications and supported in their applications for relevant work experience
Course Details
All learners on the Access to HE (Computing) programme will study the following modules:

Introduction to Systems Analysis

How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course involves a variety of assessment techniques including practical course assignments, project work, essays, oral presentations and timed assessments.
Entry requirements
You should ideally have GCSE Grade C (or above) in English Language, and preferably also a GCSE Grade C (or above) in Mathematics. Please get in touch if you have qualifications alternative to GCSE. If applicants do not have GCSE Maths at Grade C or above, they may be required to study it alongside their course.
Most universities expect students to have Grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and English Language when they apply for their Higher Education course and many are no longer accepting other Level 2 equivalents. You are advised to check the requirements with your chosen higher education institution. It may be possible to study for these qualifications whilst undertaking the Access programme at Selby College.
A passion and interest in a computing related subject, with prior qualifications in Computing/IT/ICT useful (is highly desirable but not essential)
Applicants are considered on an individual basis, so if you do not fit the typical profile as described above, please get in touch to discuss your circumstances. Mature students with relevant work history are also welcome.

This is course is designed for mature learners who want to study towards a degree or higher technical qualification in Computer Science. The programme aims to develop the skills and self-confidence in learners necessary to progress to their chosen course in Higher Education or profession.
