These fees relate to 2022/23 Tuition Fee: TBC Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students. Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Course Details

The emphasis of this qualification is on the acquisition of practical skills and knowledge that is needed for MOT Testing. The qualification requires learners to demonstrate these high level skills with accuracy, precision and consistency.

Units within the qualification cover:

Safe working practices in the test centre

Working relationships within the test centre

Managing professional development as an MOT Tester

Carrying out a statutory periodic roadworthiness test (After completing a DVSA practical assessment)


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Knowledge elements must be assessed through an externally set and externally marked examination with a notional pass mark of 80%.

Please Note: It may take up to two weeks after completion for your Certificate to arrive.


Entry requirements

You must have:

A Level 3 Motor Vehicle qualification

A current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes you want to test

At least 4 years full time employment in service and repair of vehicle classes that you wish to test

Further Study: Once you have completed this qualification you will be required to apply direct to the DVSA for the Certificate of Competence (You are required to be DVSA assessed to complete the VT8 check).


Career Opportunities: This qualification is a requirement for learners who wish to gain the DVSA Certificate of Competence in order to become an MOT Tester. Achieving this qualification will enable learners to apply to the DVSA for their Certificate of Competence.

Once a learner has achieved their Certificate of Competence from the DVSA, they will be able to be an MOT Tester at a MOT Testing Station.
