Course Summary
The course is for learners who are looking to study art and design as part of a one-year course. It supports progression to Level 3 study in art and design or can provide fundamental creative skills that are valued in other subject areas such as creative media, engineering, business or marketing. It could also support progression to an apprenticeship in art and design or a related sector.
Course Details
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with teachers and industry professionals to ensure that it supports progression to further study or training at Level 3. These consultants have ensured that the content is appropriate for study at Level 2, and consistent with current industry practice, providing learners with a foundation in the skills needed to progress to further education with an understanding of industry and the roles and opportunities available to them.
Learners taking this qualification will study two mandatory learning and teaching modules:
- Exploring and Developing Art and Design Skills
- Personal Development
- Along with
- Art and Design Project
- Responding to a Creative Brief
You will also gain transferable skills that enable learners to progress:
- The ability to learn independently
- The ability to actively investigate and problem solve
- Practical and personal communication skills
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed using synoptic assessment, this requires learners to apply learning from across the qualification to the completion of defined vocational tasks. These qualifications have been designed to promote iterative and integrated assessment through learning and teaching modules, providing a strong basis for synoptic assessment.

A minimum of two GCSEs grade D/3
Or Skills for Life qualification
Or Level one qualification
Or equivalent
