Course Summary
This course will help students to prepare for a supervisory role in the Arboriculture sector. Students will study a mixture of practical skills and develop the under pinning theory knowledge that is necessary for employment in the sector and moving on to a more advanced course such as a degree. Students will be trained within your practical sessions to a standard that will enable you to gain additional qualifications in chainsaw and climbing elements.
Course Details
The course includes a wide range of modules covering: tree identification, planting and care; plant, tree and soil sciences; advanced arboriculture practices; woodland and habitat management, tree surveys; pests and diseases; silviculture; machinery operations, urban and community forestry; business management; practical arboriculture; tree felling and chainsaw use. Work experience is included and you will also undertake an investigative project of your own. There are nationally set course work assessments throughout the course.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Courses are a mixture of theory and practical work.
Assessment: Three externally set, externally moderated assignments, two externally set, externally marked exams, sat under examination conditions, one portfolio of evidence, one additional assignment, optional unit assessments as required.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, to include 2 from English, Maths or Science with at least a grade 3 in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2.
