Course Summary
On this course you will learn the basic practical and theoretical elements of arboriculture and forestry.
Course Details
This course aims to provide a basic understanding of the practical and theoretical elements of arboriculture, the care and management of trees, and forestry, the care and management of woodlands. The course covers some of the following modules: health and safety, woodland and habitat management, ground-based arboriculture operations and planting and tree identification. You will learn how to identify trees, how to care for them and how to work safely with them. You’ll learn the ground-based operations that are the foundation of practical tree surgery, including the safe use of a tree surgeon’s tools.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is a mixture of theory and practical work.
Students' work is assessed via multiple choice exams and a synoptic assessment – a multiple-part simulated business exercise. Further details will be provided at interviews.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to include two from English, Maths and Science, with at least a grade 2 in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.

Upon successful completion of this course students may progress on to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management.
