Course Summary
Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives.
Course Details
To complete the apprenticeship standards you are required to evidence the knowledge and skills requirements of the following areas within a portfolio:
• Understanding the job they have to do, their main tasks and responsibilities
• The importance of having the right values and behaviours
• The importance of communication
• How to support individuals to remain safe from harm
• How to promote health and wellbeing for the individuals they support and work colleagues
• How to work professionally, including their own professional development
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You must meet the appropriate skills, knowledge and behaviours prior to taking the end-point assessment.
You will be allocated an Assessor who will visit you in your workplace and observe you carrying out your daily tasks and duties. You will be required to compile an electronic portfolio of evidence of your competence and knowledge, which your Assessor will help you to prepare. You will need to work towards an end point assessment, which includes the following components:
1. A portfolio of evidence completed by the apprentice.
2. An observation of practice undertaken in the workplace by an independent assessor from the awarding body as well as a professional discussion.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements except a College interview, and you must be at least 16 years of age. However, since this qualification is assessed in the workplace, you need a job or work placement which offers you suitable experience and the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills.
Apprentices without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. They must also sit the level 2 test for both English and Maths.
Basic computer skills are essential.
Your next steps...
