Course Summary

This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in early years education, teaching, childcare or assisting teaching. You could progress to roles such as nursery worker, special educational needs teaching assistant, teaching assistant or learning mentor or go on to university to become a teacher.

During the two-year course, you will learn the core knowledge and skills that underpin many jobs in early years education, childcare and teaching. A substantial industry placement with a range of childcare employers will give you a wide understanding across the age ranges.

Course Details

The T Level in Education and Early Years will include:

  • Overview of childcare and education 0–19
  • Child development
  • Supporting education
  • Safeguarding, health and safety and wellbeing
  • Behaviour
  • Observation and assessment
  • Equality and diversity
  • Special educational needs and disability
  • English as an additional Language
  • Parents, families and carers
  • Working with others
  • Reflective practice

The core content is assessed through an exam and a practical employer-set project (ESP). In addition to this, you will have the option to study one of the following specialisms:

  • Early years education and childcare
  • Supporting and mentoring students in further and higher education

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The work placement element is a mandatory and extremely important part of the T Level in Education and Early Years. You will spend a minimum of 375 hours in placement in Year 1 and the same in Year 2 to develop those care skills and competencies needed to give a Licence to Practice in the early years sector. You will receive a number of structured observations in the workplace, carried out by the College’s expert assessors to ensure competency.

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths
