Good to Go
Good to Go
Good to Go is a bespoke programme for young people aged 18 – 29 years with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and long-term health conditions including mental health issues, living in Hull and the East Riding. The project will offer first steps for young people by increasing social skills and life skills through a menu of activities. The aim will be to increase engagement and reduce social isolation and levels of loneliness in areas of high deprivation and rurality as their confidence increases. The activities will include working on an allotment, cooking, gym activity and volunteering with community groups.
The (minimum of) 12-week programme will offer the following:
- Embedded soft skills such as reliability and resilience, functional skills, and IT and with an added option of undertaking accredited courses.
- Allotment – to understand the allotment, the true concept of ‘Food to Fork’ by including our current ‘Cook with Ability’ programme and build genuine relationships with the allotment community.
- Health and Wellbeing – Option to participate in gym and a range of other fitness activities. We would also offer a specialist mental health and wellbeing service, using positive psychosocial interventions that complement but not replace pharmaceutical or therapeutic approaches. Instead, addressing the psychological, social, personal, relational issues associated with mental health conditions. A focus on positive emotions, strengths, and values to enhance well-being and resilience across our provision, which will then impact on social inclusion, loneliness and help to support people to take steps to reengage with local communities, especially those living in rural areas.
- Volunteering – we will offer a volunteering programme, initially at the allotment and widening this offer to include placements in other appropriate environments depending on the learner’s requirements.
- We will also tailor our offer by working with specialist partners to offer advice and guidance on a whole host of issues such as benefits, housing, debt management (due to increased cost of living) and careers guidance.
