The programme includes coverage of deck, bridge and engineering skills to provide a broad base for students seeking to join the maritime industry in a shipboard role, but is also suitable for those students who are unsure of their final destination or intended career. The programme is suitable for those students who have never studied Nautical Sciences before and are looking to take their first steps into the industry, as well as those who already have some prior knowledge and experience. The college is open to all genders and students benefit from our extensive connections within the maritime industry.
A blended learning pathway comprising of classroom and practical elements covering seamanship skills, industry certification alongside Level 2/3 Engineering. Successful completion of this course prepares students for either direct entry into crew positions, or with strong enough results to enter onto an officer cadetship programme.
This course has a duration of 1 year.
The course is a combination of formal academic qualifications, industry qualifications and sea-time experience.
Entry requirements are a minimum of:
- Grade 4 - English
- Grade 4 - Maths
- Grade 4 - Science
