This course is an ideal progression route for those aiming for Higher Education. The first year provides you with a really good grounding in the key areas of Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness training and Programming, Sports Leadership, Fitness testing and Sport Event Organisation. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a sports leaders qualification as well as having regular practical sport sessions. Within the second year of the programme, there will be an opportunity to undertake further sports leadership qualifications as well as some specialist training programmes such as FA learning. The course comprises BTEC-set assignments and two examined units. Projects and assignments are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. This course is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students.
This course is available as part of a full-time study programme for 16 to 18 year olds, and as a part time course for adults aged 19 and over. Please ask learner services for details.

How will it be delivered?
This course is assessed through a combination of external examinations and internally assessed assignments and practical activities. Coursework and practical assessments are based on realistic workplace situations.
A Level Two BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport at merit level or above
Four GCSEs at grades A*-C/4-9 including Maths and English
Appropriate work experience
Successful interview demonstrating motivation and commitment to the course

You could go on to employment in the sport and leisure industry obtain a sports apprenticeship or progress onto a higher education course. If you decide to go onto higher education you could take a degree in subjects such as sports studies, leisure management, sports coaching and teacher training or our Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences and BSc (Hons) Sports, Coaching and Health Sciences (Top-up).
