Course Summary

BTEC Applied science offers a practical approach that can be lacking in more traditional routes, by applying learning to real life situations. Students have to undertake a number of units for which they present evidence, based on actual work and studies. This allows them to demonstrate their skill and knowledge.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate- 1 Year

Unit 1- Principles and Applications of Science I

Unit 2- Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques

Unit 3- Science Investigation Skills

Plus one other optional Unit

BTEC Level 3 Diploma- 2 Year

The Units from the Extended Certificate plus:

Unit 4- Laboratory Techniques and their Application

Unit 5- Principles and Applications of Science II

Unit 6- Investigative Project

Plus one other optional Unit

Entry requirements

A grade 4/5 in GCSE subjects is required to study the BTEC programme. Please speak to the sixth form subject teacher for specific details on course entry.
