Course Details

The A Level specification builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at GCSE. You will continue to develop your skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and these are all assessed in the final examinations. The course also fosters a range of transferable skills including communication, critical thinking and research skills. Alongside your language skills you will develop your knowledge and understanding of themes relating to the culture and society of countries where the language is spoken, such as: family, the digital world, youth culture, immigration, art, cultural life and politics. You will study a literary text and a film which will link to the themes you cover and in the second year of the course you complete an Individual Research Project (IRP) on a topic of your choice.

Your next steps...

The content of the A Level is suitable for students who wish to progress to employment or to further study, including a modern languages degree. Many of our former students have continued to study a language either as a joint or single honours degree. Language skills are in demand and can be used in almost any career, particularly in businesses that trade internationally.
