David – The Old School House

David has worked for the East Riding Council for over 30 years in various grounds maintenance roles. David currently works at The Old School House in Beverley providing gardening duties and all aspects of grounds maintenance. David lives independently in the community and has had support from both Worklink and Futures+ to complete employability training and independent travel training and is currently spending time in the Worklink kitchen to develop his skills in food preparation, something he is putting into practice at home. David stated that “he really enjoys his job, has made new friends, has been able to learn how to use new pieces of equipment and enjoys the pocket money” David is managed by the caretaker at The Old School House who stated that “David gets along with everyone and takes pride in his job” He also has lots of ideas when it comes to gardening”. When asked what he would say to employers thinking about employing someone with a learning difficulty he stated that “The people he employs that have a learning disability get along with everyone, work hard and have a lot of offer”.
