Success Story 5 - James

Lifeline Driffield – James

James works one day a week as an Equipment Assistant at Lifeline in Driffield, the Lifeline service provides home safety and a personal security system that enables people to live independently within their own homes, knowing that should they need help or the emergency services, they will get an immediate response from the lifeline control centre 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. James responsibilities include cleaning equipment, testing & repairing broken equipment and organising deliveries. What he enjoys most about his job at lifeline is that he is a part of a team and he gets to see his friends every week. He also enjoys that he travels on the bus to work. When asked what skills James had learnt from his job he stated that “I have good time keeping skills, I am able to talk and work at the same time and I like to look smart for my job. He also likes helping his team to maintain high standards. When lifeline where asked what James brings to the team they said that “ He has a great sense of humour and keeps everyone entertained and is always willing to try different tasks when asked to do so. Given their own experience of employing someone with a learning disability they said that “James can do the same job as anyone else but he just needed some tasks adapting slightly and needed to find his own way of working, he just needed a chance to prove himself”. James was supported into employment through the help of Worklink a Council run service designed specifically to support young people and adults with learning disabilities into employment. Should you wish to contact Worklink to find out more about the service or if you are an employer that would like to offer employment opportunities please contact the team on: 01482842009
