Welcome to York College
At York College we have a very simple ambition: we want you to be happy and successful during your time with us. We also want to bridge the gap between what you are doing now and what you want to be. We know that you will have your dreams and ambitions and it is a real privilege to work with you to help you realise these.
We will do everything possible to provide:
- The individual support students need to achieve and progress
- High quality teaching with qualified, knowledgeable and experienced staff
- The best facilities in the region
- An environment where students feel safe, happy and healthy
- A valuable range of out of classroom activities to suit all interests
Students tell us they enjoy their time with us and they are pleased they made the transition from school to college. They make lasting friendships and they value the way they are treated as adults. Students also tell us how much they appreciate the support our staff give them. We look forward to welcoming you at York College and hope to work with you to ensure you leave as successful adults able to meet future challenges with confidence.
What Makes Us Different
York College offers a fantastic range of qualifications including almost 40 A Levels that are available in almost any combination, 80 Vocational courses and 50 Apprenticeship programmes. The College has high quality Sports Development Centres in football, basketball, cricket and netball, and talented musicians can enjoy expert tuition in the College's Music Development Centre. Last year students experienced over 300 trips and visits in the UK and abroad, locations included Hollywood, Stonehenge, New York and Rome. The College offers the Extended Project Qualification so that students can pursue an area of special interest whilst gaining additional UCAS points. Those students considering prestigious courses such as medicine or law, or universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group and other top universities should consider the College's Sirius Group to develop their skills and knowledge.
Gold Award for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance. We are the first provider in York and North Yorkshire to achieve the Gold Award. It is awarded to providers whose CEIAG activities are both excellent and impartial.
Tutorials and Learning Support
How we support you
At York College we want to make your whole college experience a positive one, from the moment you first think about joining us through to the time you gain your qualifications and beyond.
It is important to remember that you are never on your own. Wherever you are in your studies, in your life, there is someone to help you.
Our dedicated staff are here to help you to:
- Motivate yourself
- Manage your workload
- Be supported for a learning difficulty and/or disability
- Deal with any personal difficulties that may arise during your time with us
- Plan your future
As a student you are assigned to a Progress Tutor. You will have regular timetabled sessions with your Progress Tutor to help you to review your progress and effectively manage your time at College and make the most of your studies. Your Progress Tutor will help you work through any personal concerns or those related to your course(s) and they will write references for your job and university applications. They are your first point of contact if you need any help or advice.
Many students find that there are times when they need additional support at College. If you have a learning difficulty and/or disability and would like support, you can let us know on your application form or self-refer when you are on your course. Please ask for a copy of the booklet 'Able to Learn' if you want more information about the kind of support the College can offer.
If you want to find out more about additional learning support you can phone 01904 770428, or email email@example.com to arrange a visit.
